Smart Home Automation - Water Managment
Water management systems include that of the landscape sprinklers, water fountains, water reclamation and drainage systems. These systems are usually tied to city based systems but can also support that of irrigation and re-collection.
The most common landscape sprinkler systems are programmable. Like that of your home thermostat only instead of temperature its time, you set the days to water and how much watering time each zone will get. If it rains three days straight your system has no idea that there is water on the ground and will continue to run unnecessarily unless you have an "intervention" with the controlling device.
Smart Home Automation systems including that of water management, understands the environment and can anticipate events. There are single stations that offer an assortment of data collection devices that measure the specific location to be monitored and controlled such as temperature, wind speed and direction, solar radiation and rain fall sensors. These stations are then coupled with regional and national weather services to predict the next few days events scheduled for the area. On top of this, the system then can be told what type of vegetation is in each zone and where it is geographically to determine the amount of watering needed to supply all the plants.
All this information is used to determine what the watering needs are at an optimal level while accounting for site specific environment variables. If the weather service predicts rain but no rain is falling based on local environment variables it can water as long as the other conditions are within parameters such as wind < 5 knots.
The same system can then switch to the rain water storage tanks to drive water fountains and the sprinkler systems without pulling from the public sources.
